Conservatory Roof Blinds
Conservatories are a wonderful place to spend your time at any time of year, but during the summer it is wonderful to spend some time inside while enjoying the views. But the summer sun can make your conservatory unbearably hot.
The first solution most people think of it to have blinds fitted. A nice idea, blinds have been used in conservatories and orangeries for over a century. Blinds are attractive, available in a huge range of styles and cut down the glare. If you're willing to pay for it, you can even have them automated. And keeping most of the sun's light out should make the conservatory more pleasant during the height of summer, right?
Well, sorry, but that isn't really the case. This especially is not the case with modern double glazed conservatories. A modern uPVC conservatory is essentially a hermetically sealed box, preventing heat from passing through the windows or walls. This doesn't prevent thermal radiation (sun light) from entering. The trouble is, once it is in, it is trapped.
If you have blinds fitted this causes a problem. The heat is trapped between the blind and the glass, especially blinds fitted to the conservatory roof. This makes the blind itself incredibly hot and it then radiates this heat into the rest of the conservatory. The UV radiation bleaches the blinds, whether they are fabric or wooden blinds, the sunlight drains them of colour. |
